Dead Horse Communications Well Positioned
For Upcoming Move
CHICAGO (August 23, 2004) -- The mood is electric in the offices of Dead Horse Communications, where the staff is coming down to the wire on the big move from its old Rogers Park headquarters to the new space in West Ridge. Boxes are piling up, final arrangements are being made, and soon all that remains will be to sign the paperwork and bring in the movers.
"We're well positioned for this move, our first in almost exactly three years," said Andrew Huff, principal with Dead Horse. "We got started fairly early, and unlike in previous moves, we did a little bit each night instead of packing it into just a couple of marathon days (no pun intended)."
Huff noted that other than bathroom items, the refrigerator contents and clothing, nearly everthing else has been packed. Movers have been scheduled for Thursday afternoon, with a professional cleaning service to follow through in the evening. In the new location, a delivery of appliances and visits from representatives of the various utility companies are lined up for Friday.
"The current owners of 6224 N. Bell were gracious enough to let us in two days prior to close to begin refinishing the floors in the upstairs unit," Huff said. "The floors hadn't been worked on in a couple decades, it appears, and were in great need of resufacing. The kitchen floor is currently covered with a dated linoleum, but we were pleased to learn that there should be hardwood floors in fine condition underneath. It's just a matter of tearing out the linoleum and refinishing the wood beneath."
The kitchen floors will likely be redone at concurrent with the planned cabinet and counter replacement, Huff said. That project is anticipated in the fourth quarter of calendar 2004. Another project is also scheduled for the same period -- a complete roof and gutter replacement and chimney repair.
Dead Horse Communications will be sharing the two-story building with its current office-mate, Poise.cc, a maker of fine purses, and an additional private firm. The 1920s-era brick two-flat offers complete facilities, including a semi-finished basement, landscaped greenspace and private garage parking for employees.
"It's hard to believe we'll be living in a new home by the end of the week," Huff said. "We've enjoyed our last three years at 1515 W. Arthur, and look forward to the next three at this new location."
Dead Horse Communications offers media, public relations and copywriting services for a wide range of industries. The company is headquartered in Chicago, with satellite offices on Ursa Minor Beta. Its better-known projects include Gapers Block, a Chicago-centric news and events webzine.

Terry Nichols Omnimedia Stock
Drops After Sentencing Hearing
"Terry Nichols got a second life sentence after his state Oklahoma City bombing trial. He issued an apology many said lacked any new insights."
-- Wall Street Journal, Aug. 10, 2004
What's that supposed to mean, "lacked any new insights"? You'd think Nichols was presenting his companies most recent earnings statement, or debuting a product line. What "insights" was he supposed to reveal about how sorry he is? Was he supposed to be elaborating on his renewed religiosity?

Dead Horse Relaunches Corpse Tennis
Dead Horse Communications has relaunched its popular feature, Corpse Tennis.
Corpse Tennis is a project that blends the collaborative art of AnExquisiteCorpse.net with the back-and-forth action of Photoshop Tennis. Players follow the dimensions and conventions of AnExquisiteCorpse to create images over 10 rounds, like Photoshop Tennis. The result is a composite image that displays the talents of both players.
While both the inspirations for the project are currently on hiatus, Corpse Tennis has been blazing away at an average of one game per four to six months. Parties interested in playing a match, or having a completed set hosted on the CT site, may contact Andrew Huff at the email address listed at left.

Dead Horse Communications Announces Sale of Headquarters, "Last Shindig in the Old Digs"
CHICAGO (August 3, 2004) -- Dead Horse Communications announced today that it has sold its headquarters in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, and has begun plans to move to its new location in West Edgewater. The sale (and purchase) will be completed August 25.
"We're very excited by this news," said Andrew Huff, principal of Dead Horse Communications. "The sale of our condo puts us right on schedule to move into the new two-flat without having to worry where the down payment money is coming from."
The one-bedroom luxury condominium was sold for an undisclosed amount to a private citizen. The new owner will take possession on August 27, when Dead Horse moves to its new offices at 6224 N. Bell.
To celebrate the sale and for "one last hurrah" in this location, Dead Horse is throwing a party this Saturday, August 7, at 8 p.m. Beverages and light snacks will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring additional drinks -- and to eat beforehand.
"We've already begun the process of packing, so we're not thrilled by the idea of making dinner in the midst of a party, wondering where we put the such and such," Huff said. "This is more of an opportunity to enjoy our great deck one last time, and see all our friends before we have to clear our schedules and get down to serious packing."
